If you are thinking of changing your career and moving into the mining industry, it is a good idea to get some basic training under your belt before you start applying for entry level positions. The most common tickets/training you will need are:

  1. First Aid Certificate.
  2. General Induction – White Card.
  3. HR Licence (for work as a Truck Driver).

Looking To Get Into The Mining Industry

People who have a strong mechancial aptitude (tradies, machine operators, truck driver, mechanics etc.) will be looked upon favourably as are people who can show that they work well within teams, can work under direction and support site safety/OH&S. Be prepared to start at the bottom (Trades Assistant, Drillers Assistant, Cleaner, Cook, Administration etc.) because once you are in, you can start making contacts and move into the area that you want. Start researching and talking to people that you know about your plans, as they may know someone working in the mining industry who can provide you with some valuable advice or insight into job openings.

If anyone in the mining industry has some other tips on how to get a start in the mining industry – we would love to hear from you.
