Public Relation is a part of the management of an organisation. The primary aim is to express about the products or services they manufacture or they provide to potential customers. The political circles too use the tool of Public Relation to express solidarity and to get favourable opinion from the general masses to implement a regulation or to seek commitments from the government. The business organisations also use this tool to portray themselves as model employers in the event of a recruitment drive to attract the right talent and Non government Organisations utilise this to support an awareness programme they are promoting for raising of funds and attracting volunteers to co- operate their movement.
If we go little further we will understand that the Public Relation as a Management function revolves around managing communication between an organisation and its audiences including introducing new products and services, educating the extra facilities of an existing product or services, rectifying a mistake happened in their services. Besides this the Public Relations also evaluate public attitude, explain the policies and procedures and the concern of the organisation followed by executing a plan of action to earn public understanding and acceptance. Above all to build the right image, this is the focal point.
Keeping all these points we have to build a resume for a person who is aspiring for a position in Public Relation part of management. This is a general subject unlike of any specified technical subject. But for a PR executive of a software organisation will it be advisable for not having some basic concept of Information Technology? Yes, it should not be. This is a known fact while focus on the understanding that a good presentation and an excellent command of the language preceding all other qualities.
Now on the basis of these facts we have to think how an ideal resume for openings in PR for a fresher or for a person who is already in this field. For a fresher he/she can present themselves with back ground of the proficiency in the language, their prowess in debating, public speaking or even their liking in fine arts. But for an experienced person who wants to shift little more into the highly competitive field of information presentation he or she has to be precise in their approach. As we are all aware the Resume has to be basically three main important heads i.e. the communication details, the experience in the field details and the education details. If we are going to go with this specimen and seeking an opening it will be nothing more than a tender document for a railway construction. What we have to do is make our resume as something as to stand out in a crowd rather a pile of resumes.
So as the first step we have given the precise communication details of us on the top left hand corner of the first page. Here one thing we have to remember that the communication details have to be given on each page at the top left corner. The simple logic for this to make sure that an HRD executive, who is rummaging the piles of resumes, locates any thing interesting in a particular page he can immediately note down without going back to the first page. You know this is an extra precaution we are taking to make sure our resume to stand out. The next step is the most important one; we have to show our OBJECTIVE to the employers.
The objective is something we are directly selling to opposite party and we are going to present in capital letters. Let us examine some of the objectives as an example:
- A PR PERSON HAVING 5 YEARS OF EXPOSURE IN THE IMAGE BUILDING OF THE BRAND.
- A PUBLIC RELATIONS MANAGER DOING SUCCESSFUL AWARNESS PROGRAMME FOR THE LAST 7 YEARS.
- A PR MAN WITH 4 YEARS OF IMAGE BUILDING EXERCISE HAS INCREASED THE SALE OF THE PRODUCT FOUR FOLD.
- A PR PERSON WITH RIGHT INTEREST HAS ENHANCED THE NECESSORY MARKETING INPUT TO EVOLVE NEW STRATEGY.
- A MASTER IN ENGLISH LITERATURE AND A FREELANCE REPORTER WANTS A BREAKTHORUGH IN CORPORATE WORLD.
These are by no means an exhaustive one. You have to frame each objective based on the need of the employer and your exposure.
Having conveyed your objective we have to see our experience commensurate with the objective, so you have to make necessary simple additions and subtractions to suite the objective. It is better to start from your latest experience first and downwards to your first assignment. Each experience has to be with clear mention of the organisation you have worked for with periods. On each experience period we have to say how this has helped the organisation if possible in a quantitative term.
Once the experience part is over we can enter into the field of education details. An aspiring PR person’s profile will get a boost if he/she has the excellent credentials of education. So if you are a topper all through, by all means go ahead. On the other hand your education is not that attractive, does not matter, it is your experience and attitude and your soft skills are going to matter. A school toper may not have acquired all these as you are. So be focus on your aim.
Now the part is your interest. If you have the interest in debate or public speaking, by all means mention it. On the other hand if you are interested in out door adventure sports again go ahead. Because in all these activities a PR person can be a great help for any organisation.
Finally to show any special interest or contact as the last paragraph, it is going to be real boost for a PR person. You can show it as the TIP or SPECIAL MENTION.
